This is our test car. A 1965 Dodge Dart GT with a 273ci v8 that's missing an intake pushrod, a TorqueFlite 904, and a 7.25 2.76:1 rear end with a custom mini-spool. It wears whatever tires we feel like smoking off of it that day. It exists mainly to relieve stress by way of massive smoky burnouts. It's also our test mule for all of our custom fabrication ideas. Someday, it'll get a bigger motor. Or just a more powerful same sized motor. Or maybe a power adder. In any case, more power. More media once we make it. Update: 3.15.08! I put the burnout videos on YouTube just to make our lives easier. Turns out that the exhaust crossover valve on the passenger side manifold was stuck all the way shut, and the intake crossover was entirely carboned up, hence the sickly exhaust note. This thing may run again someday. I sure hope it does, cause it was a ton of fun. Joe's Burnout: Dave's Burnout: [End Update] Current status as of 3.2.07:
Long story short- it needs work. That motor and trans came out together and we didn't even have to pull the hood. [we did anyway, cause we're stupid like that] As of now, it's a roller, soon to be tubbed and caged and remotored. Needs brakes, cooling system, charging system, starting system, fuel system, ignition system, and a new motor. [and that's the short list] As of now, we're trying to find one of our 3 small block mopars that we can slap together to make a running bomb out of. We're thinking a regasketed 273 or a craptacular 318. Or another 318. Any way you look at it, it's gonna be awhile. We'll post updates as they happen.
Here's our custom radiator install. It came out of a 3.8L Thunderbird.
And here's our superduper trans cooler. It's an old truck [think big rig] heater core.
Here's a better overview of the driver's side paint. [compliments of Missy]
And our sweet 8$ implement lights.
Here's my custom artwork.
And our spiffy sawzitall tire clearancing.
This is Joe's masterpiece of a safety bumper. It no longer has any shock absorbing action tho...solid mounted for knocking down trees, towing vans and being pushed.
Every good pushbutton starter hotrod needs a high quality security system.
Quick release trunk latches for easy access.
Gotta be able to get to the custom fuel cell. Think this'll pass tech? Used to have fuel oil in it. I think we'll leave that label on there.
This is one classy interior.
And the custom dash with the buttons and switches removed. It's top quality.
Old stuff: Joe's Burnout Dave's Burnout And yes, that's a barn door that we're doing those burnouts on. And that's Dave's artistry on the side of the Dart there in the form of the devil guy. This is the Rural Assualt Vehicle 7. [RAV-7 if you will] Rural cause we drive it everywhere but the street. Assualt because it tears the crap out of the grass and runs down small children. Vehicle because it's car shaped and can move under its own power sometimes. 7 is the number of cylinders.
Rt 53 burnout?
Here you can see our custom fitted aluminum radiator our of an early 90's Ford Thunderbird. And our custom transcooler made out of a heater core, which has since been located to in front of the radiator where it belongs. And our JC Whitney electic fuel pump. And our sweet custom radiator hose. And our custom wiring. And our accident-waiting-to-happen single master cylinder. And if this were a current picture, our 80's GM alternator and corresponding custom bracketry. That's it for now. Hopefully some pretty turbos soon.
And the reason our Dart is powered by the mighty V7 [instead of a more traditional V8]
Here's all the freakin work it took to figure out that we don't know what did that.
Here's what happens when you don't change your oil on a regular basis! Can we say sludge?
